There is a triad of symptoms that I learned about in medical school 30 years ago and that I have encountered in my practice. I learned it under the name of the "asthma triad" but have also seen it named "Samters triad" and the "aspirin triad." Patients with the condition have a present and/or past history of recurrent nasal polyps and asthma, and they are allergic to NSAIDs. This needs to be in the dictionary, especially given the current issues raised in the medical community and in the media about the dangers of opioid medications--which may be the only option for patients with this syndrome. Its genetic roots if any need discussion.
